We begin by reading the quirky and hilarious farmyard tale of cows that type! Yes, the cows use a typewriter and send notes to the farmer! After we enjoy the silly read and we are inspired by the fun pen and watercolor illustrations, our young artists will get to work on their own creation: a dancing cow! We will learn about Lines, Shapes, and Movement to learn how to draw a dancing cow. We will explore a watercolor resist technique using oil pastels. Artwork is 12”x18” on watercolor paper.

Recommended for 3 - 8 year olds. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to participate. Project will take approximately 45 mins.

What child doesn’t like Monsters or this book: Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.Join us on a literary adventure about a mischievous boy, Max, who's room turns into an imaginative forest after his mom sends him to bed without dinner. He travels by boat to a place where the wild things live, puts a magic spell on them, and makes them dance and perform crazy acts. Max becomes lonely on the island and sails back home to his room where dinner is waiting for him. The illustrations are a combination of paint and colored pencil, which leads the class to create their very own Monster Art. We will discuss various Monster characteristics we saw in the book and draw on 12”x18” watercolor paper using crayons, colored pencils and watercolors. At the end of the class we will pin up our art and do a Wild Dance with our Monsters!

Recommended for children ages 4-9. We encourage parents/caregivers to stay for this program and participate. Today we will begin at the art tables. Children will use an assorted mix of unordinary brushes and paper materials to collage “brown” paper. Together we will experiment with brush strokes and textures. As the paper dries, we will gather around and read the beloved book: Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? By Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle. As we read through the book, we will guess what animal we will see next and discuss the illustrations of each colorful animal. After the book, we move back to the art tables to our collaged brown paper to create our very own Brown Bear! We will compose a scene of the Brown Bear on a 12”x18” art board by cutting shapes from our collaged art paper, Eric Carle style.

Recommended for children ages 4-9. We encourage parents/caregivers to stay for this program and participate. For children 7 and older, drop off is allowed, please come early to fill out an emergency contact form. Registration is recommended, seats available on a first-come first-serve basis. We will create a 18”x20” mixed media project with tempera paints, oil pastels, fabrics, paper, scissors and glue.

We begin by gathering around for story time to read one of our favorites: You Be You by Linda Kranz. The book is about her famous rockfish Adri and expresses the themes of diversity, individuality, and acceptance to children. When Adri sets out to explore the ocean, he has no idea how colorful the world is. He quickly discovers that there are all kinds of fish in the deep blue sea—big and tiny, smooth and spiny, colorful and plain, different and the same. Join us and Adri as he travels the ever changing currents of the ocean and sees our diverse beautiful world! After we complete the book, we will move to the art tables and get creative with Watercolors to express our diversity and individuality through painting our very own fish! For the project we will use 12”x18” watercolor paper, oil pastels and watercolors. We encourage parents and caregivers to talk with our children during the workshop about the themes of the book and who we are as individuals. At the end of the workshop, we will pin up our art work as a class to view how we and our fish are all different and how together we create a beautiful world!

Recommended for children ages 4-9. We encourage parents/caregivers to stay for this program and participate.
